Presentation by Indiana Delegation to Israel & Palestine 7:30 p.m. Stewart Center Room 310. Purdue ![]() Seven of the Indiana delegates: Bret Eartheart, Reverend Bill Breeden, Dennis Childers, Gretchen Clearwater, Djoko Wirosoetno, Alison Strang, and Lance Thurner. The Indiana Delegation to Israel and Palestine (IDIP) is a group of Indiana citizens who came together out of common concern over the conditions of human rights in Israel and Palestine. The delegation traveled to Israel and Palestine from August 8-23, 2003. They met with families, politicians and peace advocates on all sides of the conflict. Grassroots Educational Training (GET UP!) 2nd Annual Conference Harmony School, 909 East 2nd Street in Bloomington, Indiana. You can register online. The purpose of GET UP! is to help share the immense amount of knowledge about grassroots organizing that exists in all of our communities,introduce individuals with less experience with grassroots organizing to many of the different aspects and skills involved, and help groups and individuals network.The weekend will include over twenty five workshops on topics such as consensus, fundraising, power-mapping, research, and more intensive courses for those who are already involved in organizing or those that attended the first conference. We are soliciting workshop proposals until September 25th and encourage anyone who feels they can present a useful workshop on grassroots organizing to apply. "Rebuilding Hope for Peace in the Middle East: What Will It Take?" lecture by Ron Young, Executive Director USICPME (U.S. Interreligious Committee for Peace in the Middle East) 7:30 p.m. Stewart Center Room 206, Purdue The U.S. Interreligious Committee for Peace in the Middle East is a national organization of Jews, Christians and Muslims dedicated to dialogue, education and advocacy for peace based on the deepest teachings of the three religious traditions. Founded in 1987, the Committee organizes and supports national and local programs of dialogue, education and advocacy for peace, while at the same time challenging the persistent prejudices and stereotypes members of one tradition may have of the other two. The Committee works to generate public interreligious support for U.S. efforts to help Israel, the Palestinian Authority and the Arab states achieve a negotiated, comprehensive and reconciliatory peace. "The Road To Clean Elections" (Video and discussion) 12 noon (Science & Theology Brown Bag) Wesley Foundation (435 W. State Street, Click for a map.) More competition, a more diverse candidate pool, more time spent with regular voters, freedom from conflicts of interest - these are among the signal accomplishments of Arizona and Maine's new Clean Elections laws as shown in the video "The Road To Clean Elections." Narrated by Bill Moyers, the video features candidates on the campaign trail, lively testimonials by candidates who ran for office under their states' voluntary full public financing systems, and assessments of how well Clean Elections works by campaign finance reform experts and activists. Haddow Communications produced the video for Public Campaign with assistance from Northeast Action, Arizona Clean Elections Institute Inc., and the Maine Citizen Leadership Fund. She is also Vice-Chair of the Council for the Advancement of Arab British Understanding (CAABU). Her previous posts were at the Royal Institute for International Affairs London and the School of Oriental and African Studies. She is author of the book, In Search of Fatima: A Palestinian Story." Dr. Ghada Karmi will also have a book signing after her lectures.. |

Currently she is Research Fellow at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter in England. She is also Vice-Chair of the Council for the Advancement of Arab British Understanding (CAABU). Her previous posts were at the Royal Institute for International Affairs London and the School of Oriental and African Studies. She is author of the book, In Search of Fatima: A Palestinian Story."
