March on Washington, January 18, 2003

Two bus loads of Hoosiers left Indianapolis on Friday evening, January 17 bound for Washington DC. People came from Terre Haute, Evansville, Bloomington, Richmond, and other Indiana cities to travel together to be part of an important event. "Stop the War in Iraq," organized by the International Answer Coalition, drew people from all across the US and was bigger nd more diverse than any of us expected.

Some of the signs in Washington that day said: "Say Yes to Peace," "Drop Bush Not Bombs," "An Eye for an Eye Leaves the Whole World Blind," "How did our oil get under their sand?" and "9-11-01, 15 Saudis, 0 Iraqis."

We Hoosiers were proud to march behind the flag of Indiana and "Old Glory," a United States flag with a picture of a dove and an olive branch. We represented many more people from Indian who oppose the Bush policy to go to war with Iraq. We came home looking forward to working in the Lafayette Area Peace Coalition to bring dour message to more people. Text by Sheila Rosenthal.
